As part of St. John Health System, St. John Hospital and Medical Center is
a regional-referral teaching hospital (affiliated with Wayne State
University) with 607 licensed beds, a 600-member medical staff and more
than 50 medical and surgical specialties.
St. John Hospital is the east side's largest acute care provider and only
designated Emergency Trauma Center. The Sisters of St. Joseph opened St.
John Hospital in 1952 to provide much-needed medical care on the east side
of Detroit. Today, St. John Hospital and Medical Center is part of the St.
John Health System and serves people throughout eastern metropolitan
Detroit, including the Grosse Pointes, Harper Woods, St. Clair Shores,
Eastpointe, Roseville, Fraser, Mt. Clemens, Harrison Township, Clinton
Township, Sterling Heights, Warren, New Baltimore and beyond.
Vision
The St. John Health System will be one of the dominant health care systems
in southeastern Michigan and will be the preeminent system in the eastern
metropolitan area.
Mission
The mission of St. John Health System is to perpetuate the healing mission
of the Church. Consistent with the gospel imperative and the spirit of
Ascension Health to serve our neighbor, we will promote physical, mental,
social and spiritual health for all those seeking care, including the poor
and those with special needs.
Our concern for the value of all human life and the dignity of each person
leads St. John Health System towards the achievement of excellence in the
treatment of all those we serve and in enhancing the quality of the
environment for those who provide curing and caring services.
Ascension Health
St. John Health System is part of the Catholic health ministry Ascension
Health, a national faith-based health care organization created in
November, 1999, as a collaborative partnership between the Sisters of St.
Joseph Health System and Daughters of Charity National Health System. St.
John was originally founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph Health System,
and became part of Ascension Health when the new entity was created.
As a faith-based organization and member of Ascension Health, St. John
Health System embraces and promotes core Values that are shared by the
more than 87,000 Ascension Health employees at hundreds of health care
facilities across 15 states and the District of Colombia.
